Career planning: Where are you now

Posted by JG Mashino under Employment

Successful career planning requires only one thing:  a willingness on the part of individual to sit down periodically and evaluate where they are in their career. Both how far along they have come, as well as how far along they are towards achieving any goals they have set for themselves. If you have not already done so, begin your career planning by first physically drawing or listing out where you have come from, where you are, and where you perceive yourself headed within your current job/career. This map or list can then serve as a baseline for your future career planning sessions, and will help you trace your evolution along you career path. In addition to this mapping, go over your personal visions for your career and match them up against what you currently like or dislike. Examine the larger trends within your job and company, as well as the career at large, and see if you need to obtain additional education or learn new skills. And finally, review existing job opportunities both within your company as well as outside of it, and outside your career if you can determine that your skills are transferable. Remember that career planning can always be a fun and fulfilling endeavor.

Working With A Recruitment Agency

Posted by JG Mashino under Employment

Can you tell a good recruitment agency from a bad one?

In this age of instant career choices, a recruitment agency can spring up with highly unqualified people who have shifted in for the lure of high commissions. You need to be on the lookout for the signs of a bad recruitment agency so you don’t waste your time or your money.

A good recruiting agency should never charge you money for their services. The employer typically pays their fee. You will be given a number of different opportunities to interview for and you should be getting feedback on how you did. If they offer to sell you services for revamping your resume to printing copies of cover letters, you are not dealing with a reputable recruiting service, most likely. Learn the signs that tell you when you’ve struck recruiter gold and when you’ve been lured in by the promise of fool’s gold.

Americans with Disabilities Act: Its Current Intentions

Posted by JG Mashino under Disabilities

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was originally intended to protect people with disabilities so they could get fair treatment in the workplace and so they would not be overlooked for employment opportunities and promotions.  While this is still the assumed intent of the act, rulings of the court over cases involving the ADA have made the intentions of the bill appear slightly different.

Court rulings over ADA cases have created a loophole of sorts in the bills.  In order to win a court case, a disabled person must prove that he or she is disabled enough to be considered “disabled” under the law, but they must not be too disabled so that they cannot be expected to do the job.  A lot of people fall between these restrictions, and as a result many people have not been protected as they should have been.

Here Are Some Common Job Search Methods

Posted by admin under Employment

Read the want ads

There is no more common method or strategy for job searching than glancing over the want ads in your local paper.  It is one of simplest means of keeping informed of new job openings and other potential employment opportunities in your area.

 Stop by the business

Rather than sitting around waiting for the job to come to you, try pounding the pavement.  Get out there and visit the business that has current openings.  Fill out an application.  Talk to a relevant supervisor if it is possible. Don’t leave it all to chance.  Make your presence known to prospective employers.

 Network for jobs

Sometimes, finding the next job is about whom you know—or even whom someone you know happens to know.  Networking can be a great way to get the word out that you are looking for a new job.  It can also give you a chance to speak directly with employment representatives so you can market your skills and qualifications in more informal settings.

By the way…

If you want to have access to even more great approaches to job searching, then go www.employment.4justyou.com/ebook.html and get the eBook, “The Employment Information and Resource Guide.”
